Distillation and production

Production method

Traditional single malt production: use of malted barley including from on-site malting, fermentation in washbacks, double distillation in copper pot stills (wash still and spirit still) and maturation in oak casks. For the gin the distillery's new make spirit is combined with selected botanicals.

Distillation

Traditional double distillation in copper pot stills (pot still): a wash still and a spirit still; use of new make malt spirit also for gin.

Ageing

Maturation in oak casks; a combination of ex-bourbon casks (American oak), European oak sherry-seasoned casks and refill casks depending on the expression; occasional releases of very old bottles (up to 50 years for special releases).

Producer history Glenturret Distillery

The site has documentation dating back to 1763 (a lease register mentioning Thurot Distillery), which is why the distillery styles itself as "Scotland’s Oldest Working Distillery." Over the centuries it experienced closures and reopenings (production suspended in the 1920s, reopened in 1957) and has been extensively renovated several times. In March 2019 ownership passed to a joint venture led by Lalique Group together with Hansjörg Wyss; from 2020 the single malt range marketed under The Glenturret name was relaunched.

Production philosophy

Strong focus on artisanal tradition and historical production methods combined with contemporary initiatives in packaging, visitor experience and sustainability. The distillery emphasizes its link to the local area (Loch Turret water, Scottish barley) and favors small batches and carefully managed maturations.

Territory

The Hosh, Crieff, Perthshire (heart of Scotch whisky country, Scotland)

Awards and recognitions

The Glenturret Triple Wood received Outstanding Gold (score 99) at the International Wines and Spirits Competition (IWSC) 2023; other IWSC recognitions were also awarded to bottles from the range in the same session.
