Distillation and production

Production method

Production of single malt Scotch whisky: use of malted barley and local water, fermentation and distillation in copper pot stills with traditional worm-tub condensers. The new-make is then matured in oak casks; some expressions are finished in particular casks (e.g. Amoroso sherry, port casks).

Distillation

Double distillation in copper pot stills with worm-tub condensers (traditional).

Ageing

Maturation in oak casks; predominant use of ex-bourbon (American oak) and use of special-cask finishes for some expressions (Amoroso sherry, port casks).

Producer history Talisker

Talisker was founded by the MacAskill brothers in Carbost on the Isle of Skye in the early 19th century (the brand's official narrative indicates an opening around 1830). Over the decades the site has undergone changes in ownership and development and experienced a fire in the 20th century; the current operation is part of the Diageo group. Talisker is historically recognized as the main producer of single malt on the Isle of Skye and a consolidated name among the "Classic Malts" selection.

Production philosophy

Talisker emphasizes the maritime origins of its whisky: the official claim highlights the coastal element and the connection with the Isle of Skye. In recent years the brand has communicated environmental responsibility initiatives related to the protection of marine habitats and the conservation of coastal waters.

Territory

Carbost, Loch Harport, Isle of Skye (Scotland, United Kingdom). The climate and coastal location influence the aromatic style of the whiskies, often described as maritime, saline, smoky and peppery.
