Ritterhof’s Lagrein Alto Adige DOC shows a deep, intense ruby color with a slightly softened rim. On the nose it offers ripe black fruit, cherry and plum, accompanied by notes of forest floor and a sweet spice that enlivens its complexity; a mineral thread and a fresh acidic streak keep the profile slim and pleasant, avoiding excess and suggesting a good balance between concentration and drinkability. Overall it displays a savory quality that balances the fruit’s richness well, making it interesting both on its own and at the table.

On the palate the wine is full and enveloping: the tannins are present but smoothed, capable of supporting the structure without weighing it down; the fruit returns clearly while the finish lingers with light earthy sensations. It is a wine suited to structured dishes such as grilled meats, stews and aged cheeses, but it also stands up well to pairings based on mushrooms or roasted vegetables. Serve at a moderate temperature and, if greater openness is desired, allow it a few minutes in the glass. A red that speaks of character without excess, perfect for those seeking structure and pleasure.
