Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 Lupicaia - Castello Del Terriccio represents an enological excellence of the Tuscan territory, a faithful expression of the local winemaking art. This wine is born from a careful blend of native and international grape varieties, selected to guarantee structure and complexity. Its fascinating intense ruby color anticipates a rich and enveloping bouquet, in which ripe red fruit aromas, spicy notes, and light balsamic nuances emerge, the result of the perfect balance between grapes and aging. The maturation takes place in wood, seeking elegant softness and a well-defined harmony between tannins and freshness, thus enhancing the enjoyment and longevity of the wine. On the palate, it reveals itself full and velvety, accompanied by a solid aromatic persistence. Ideal paired with red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses, Lupicaia celebrates the tradition and innovation of Tuscan viticulture.

Castello del Terriccio – Winery in Toscana

Discover the story and wines of Castello del Terriccio.

Winery in the Tuscan Maremma, known for Super Tuscan–style wines such as Lupicaia and for the production of red and white wines and olive oil.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Grapes: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot
Estate covering approximately 1,500 hectares, with 65 hectares dedicated to vineyards and 40 to olive groves. Vineyards facing the sea in the Maremma, on calcareous-sandy soils. Flagship: Lupicaia (first vintage 1993), the estate's iconic wine. Declared annual production: approximately 200,000–250,000 bottles. On-site restaurant and tour/tasting activities at the estate
Winery history
The site preserves traces of viticulture dating back to Etruscan times; its name derives from the ruins of a medieval castle on the estate's highest hill. In the 20th century the property was converted into a large agricultural estate and, from the 1970s/1980s onward, under the guidance of Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana the estate specialized in producing high-quality wines, gaining international renown. Current management has passed to the next generation, who continue the agricultural and winemaking activities while maintaining the estate's historical ties.
Production philosophy
An approach focused on integrating with the environment: protecting biodiversity, choosing international varieties suited to the territory, controlled yield reduction to concentrate the quality of the grapes, and winemaking that respects the fruit’s characteristics with selected aging in wood and stainless steel.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate stretches along the coastal strip of the Maremma near Bolgheri (province of Pisa), on calcareous-sandy, stony soils and under the strong influence of sea breezes; the landscape alternates between vineyards, Mediterranean scrub, woodland and olive groves overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Awards and recognitions
The estate and its wines have received national and international recognition; in particular, Lupicaia has been repeatedly awarded (including Tre Bicchieri for many vintages).
