The Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC by Schloss Englar is an oenological excellence that best expresses the potential of the South Tyrolean territory, renowned for its ideal microclimate and soils particularly suited to the cultivation of this grape variety. Coming from vineyards located at altitudes that guarantee a significant nocturnal temperature range, this Pinot Nero is characterized by refined elegance and a delicate structure.

Visually, it presents bright and shiny ruby tones, while on the nose it opens with intense aromas of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and raspberries, accompanied by light spicy notes and a wild hint typical of the grape variety in the background. On the palate, it reveals itself as harmonious, enveloping, with soft tannins and a fresh and savory final persistence, confirming its great drinkability.

The vinification follows traditional methods attentive to gentle extraction and the aging takes place in wooden barrels that enhance its complexity without overpowering its fragrance. It is a wine that pairs splendidly with white meat dishes, light game, and not too aged cheeses, ideal for moments of refined tasting.

Winery history
The Castel/Schloss Englar complex is a medieval settlement first mentioned in documents from 1256; the present late‑Gothic building developed from the 15th century and the property has been linked for centuries to the Counts Khuen‑Belasi. In recent decades the manor has been restored and also converted for hospitality use; wine production was revived and, since 2014, winemaking has again been carried out and bottled on site.
Production philosophy
The winery focuses on estate-grown grapes, organic vineyard management and the preservation of biodiversity. In the cellar, careful winemaking practices are preferred to produce clean wines characteristic of the area, with extended aging in wood and respect for maturation on the lees when necessary.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in San Michele di Appiano, the estate stands on a south-facing terraced hill with an almost Mediterranean influence. The area benefits from ample sunshine and soils well suited to alpine and international varieties.
Awards and recognitions
Wine ratings reported by specialist magazines, with scores for various reserve wines reaching up to around 93/100 for labels such as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir Reserve; numerous labels reviewed with scores in the 91–93/100 range.
