Aglianico Vulture Superiore DOCG - Don Anselmo - Magnum - Paternoster is an enological excellence born in the volcanic area of Vulture, in Basilicata. This wine, made from selected Aglianico grapes, intensively expresses the character of the territory: volcanic terroir, altitude, and cool climate confer complexity and structure to the product.

After a carefully controlled fermentation, the aging takes place in large wooden barrels, which enhance notes of ripe cherry, plum, and light spicy nuances, accompanied by an elegant background of aromatic herbs and earth. The tannin is robust but well polished, with a remarkable balance between freshness and alcoholic warmth.

On the palate, it is full and enveloping, ideal to accompany red meats, roasts, and aged cheeses. The Magnum format adds longevity value, allowing this Aglianico to further develop over time, revealing new complexities with every sip.

Winery history
A historic winery of the Vulture region, established by the Paternoster family and active for generations. Founded in 1925 in Barile, it has become a benchmark for the promotion of Aglianico del Vulture: it retains strong family continuity in its management and, since 2016, has been part of the Tommasi Family Estates group, which has supported restoration projects and the expansion of the estate’s hospitality.
Production philosophy
Artisanal, terroir-driven approach: each vineyard and parcel are tended and vinified separately to convey the character of the Vulture. Vineyard and cellar decisions are guided by respect for the fruit, the search for identity, and the aim to produce long-lived, distinctive wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Located on the slopes of Monte Vulture in Basilicata, the winery works with the volcanic soils typical of the Aglianico del Vulture appellation, at altitudes of 400–600 m or more and with pronounced diurnal temperature variation.
Awards and recognitions
The Don Anselmo cru has received wide recognition from the international press: among the awards and scores it has earned are high ratings from Wine Advocate, 93/100 from James Suckling, and Italian honors such as Gambero Rosso’s 3 Bicchieri.
