Canalicchio di Sopra's Rosso di Montalcino DOC is a splendid expression of the Montalcino area, recognized throughout the world for its ability to produce wines of exceptional quality. Located in one of the most prestigious areas of Tuscany, the Canalicchio di Sopra winery is committed to the production of wines that faithfully reflect the elegance, complexity and depth of Sangiovese, the regal grape variety of this area.

This Rosso di Montalcino is positioned as a more immediate wine than its "big brother", Brunello di Montalcino, while offering a complexity and structure that make it distinctive and appreciated by wine lovers. Produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes, the Rosso di Montalcino by Canalicchio di Sopra benefits from careful vinification and a short period of aging in wood, which help to enhance its freshness, fruitiness and drinkability, while maintaining a solid tannic structure and excellent aging capacity.

The wine has a lively ruby red color, which announces its lively aromatic notes. On the nose, the Rosso di Montalcino by Canalicchio di Sopra exhibits a rich and inviting olfactory profile, with a prevalence of red fruits such as cherries and strawberries, enriched by floral nuances, sweet spices and a light touch of vanilla and leather, the result of the elegant passage Wood.

In the mouth, the wine is balanced and harmonious, with a freshness and acidity that perfectly balance the soft and velvety tannins. The flavors of ripe red fruit blend with spicy hints and a light minerality, leading to a long and persistent finish, which leaves a pleasant sensation of cleanliness and refreshing complexity.

Ideal in combination with Tuscan dishes, such as tomato soup, Florentine steak or mature cheeses, Canalicchio di Sopra's Rosso di Montalcino DOC is also an excellent companion for a variety of international cuisines, demonstrating its versatility and its ability to elevate the dining experience.

Through its Rosso di Montalcino, Canalicchio di Sopra continues to demonstrate its commitment to producing high-quality wines that celebrate the uniqueness and richness of the Montalcino territory, offering wine lovers an authentic and unforgettable experience.

Winery history
Founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti, Canalicchio di Sopra has grown as a family-run estate committed to improving the quality of Montalcino wines. The winery's first bottle of Brunello dates to 1966, and in 1967 the estate was among the founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Today it is managed by successive generations who combine tradition and innovation.
Production philosophy
Pursuit of elegance and respect for the land: the estate works exclusively with the Sangiovese grape to highlight the differences among the individual crus. Vineyard and cellar choices pursue the purity of the fruit, balance, and the protection of the environment that hosts the vineyards.
Terroir and vineyards
Situated on the northeastern side of the Montalcino hill, the estate owns approximately 60 hectares of land in total, 19 of which are planted with vineyards within the cru Canalicchio and Montosoli. The vineyards cover a range of soils and exposures — clay, galestro and mineral-rich substrates — which help define the styles of the wines.
