The Controguerra Rosso Riserva DOC Lumen Magnum from the Illuminati winery is a red wine that embodies the winemaking spirit and passion of the Abruzzo region. Produced with selected grapes of Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon, this reserve is a true gem for wine enthusiasts who appreciate complexity and richness of flavors.

The winemaking method follows a rigorous selection of grapes, which are handpicked and subjected to fermentation in large stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. This is followed by the crucial maturation phase, which takes place in oak barrels for a period of no less than 18 months, with additional refinement in the bottle that perfects the bouquet and the wine's organoleptic characteristics.

Visually, Lumen presents a deep ruby red color that turns to garnet with aging. On the nose, seductive notes of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and a slight hint of tobacco and leather emerge, showcasing a perfect integration between fruit and wood. On the palate, the wine reveals itself as structured and well-balanced, with mature tannins accompanying a pleasant aromatic persistence and a freshness that invites another sip.

Served at a temperature of 18-20°C, it pairs wonderfully with red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses. The Magnum format presentation makes it perfect also as a collector’s item or to be shared on special occasions.

The Controguerra Rosso Riserva DOC Lumen from Illuminati represents an excellent choice for those wishing to explore the richness of Abruzzese wines, with a particular focus on tradition and enological excellence.

Winery history
The business traces its origins to the Illuminati family and dates back to 1890, when Nicola Illuminati began winemaking on the border between Marche and Abruzzo. Over the generations ownership and management have remained within the family; in the 1960s Dino Illuminati established the headquarters in Controguerra and expanded the vineyards in the historic area known as Zanna. Today the winery remains a family-run enterprise with multiple generations involved.
Production philosophy
Production focused on quality and a connection to the land: artisanal work in the vineyard and cellar, respect for local agricultural practices, and care of the processes from vine to bottle to express the identity of the Colline Teramane.
Terroir and vineyards
Colline Teramane — a hilly area between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, characterized by temperature variations and windiness that promote balanced ripening of the grapes.
