Historic vineyards around the castle and the presence of Gallo-Roman fermentation vats. The estate has been in the Barruol family for generations. A 'négociant-vigneron' approach developed since the 1990s; a focus on traditional winemaking and expressing the terroir. Vineyards of old vines and typical blend composition: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre.
Winery history
The estate has been linked to the Barruol family for centuries: official records cite family ties dating back to 1490, and the domaine's homepage displays "Est. 1570". The site preserves Gallo-Roman fermentation vats and was progressively steered toward modern quality under the guidance of Louis Barruol; from the late 1990s the domaine also developed a négociant-vigneron activity.
Production philosophy
The domaine's approach focuses on expressing the terroir through traditional practices and on the careful tending of the parcels; the historic vineyard and soil biodiversity are considered key elements for producing balanced, long-lived wines.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate is located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The Château's vineyards surround the castle and are characterized by limestone and sandy soils and rock outcrops typical of the area.
