Property consisting of a single block of vineyards. Three emblematic terroirs of the appellation: galets roulés, safres and Urgonian limestones. Family-run, fourth generation. Flagship cuvée "Le Plateau", a selection of the finest vineyards on the plateau. HVE Level 3 environmental certification.
Winery history
The Mont-Redon site has been planted with vines since Roman times; the earliest historical record indicates that in 1344 the vineyard belonged to the bishopric. Over the centuries the property passed to the Astier-Mathieu family. In 1923 Henri Plantin purchased the land and began a major programme of replanting and consolidation of the vineyards: subsequent generations progressively expanded the estate until it formed a single, extensive vineyard holding. Today the estate is owned by the Plantin heirs and is managed by the fourth generation; in recent years the family has also acquired other domaines in the region. In 2023 the centenary of Plantin ownership of Mont-Redon was celebrated.
Production philosophy
The winery prioritizes manual work and the care of older vines, artisanal vineyard practices and low‑intervention winemaking to showcase the expression of its different terroirs. The estate also states a commitment to measured environmental practices aimed at preserving soil and biodiversity; it has obtained HVE level 3 certification.
Terroir and vineyards
Château Mont-Redon is situated in the northwestern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, on a single contiguous block of vineyards that encompasses the three terroirs typical of the appellation: the plateau of large galets roulés, the safres and the Urgonian limestones. These distinct geological substrates contribute to the wines' complexity, providing different water reserves and mineral profiles.
