Carlo Hauner's Salina Rosso PGI is a wine that embodies the strength and intensity of the terroir of the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic area rich in history and wine culture. This red wine, produced by the Carlo Hauner winery, one of the most renowned in the Aeolian archipelago, is the result of a careful blend of native grapes, among which Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese stand out, which find in the unique conditions of Salina the ideal context to express all their character.

The Carlo Hauner winery, founded by the homonymous artist and visionary who fell in love with the Aeolian Islands in the 1960s, is today a symbol of quality and innovation, with a strong commitment to valorising native varieties and producing wines that faithfully reflect the identity of this unique territory. The approach in the vineyard is strongly oriented towards sustainable practices, to guarantee not only the health of the vineyard but also the integrity and purity of the fruit.

Salina Rosso PGI stands out for its deep ruby red color, with reflections that announce its complexity and depth. On the nose, the wine offers a wide range of aromas, from ripe berries to spicy and balsamic notes, enriched with mineral accents that testify to the volcanic nature of Salina's soil. Wooden barrel aging adds layers of complexity, with touches of vanilla and tobacco intertwining harmoniously with the fruit.

In the mouth, Salina Rosso PGI reveals a well-balanced structure, with soft tannins and an acidity that supports its elegance and freshness. The palate is enveloped by intense flavors of cherry, blackberry and spices, which evolve towards a long and persistent finish, with a pleasant mineral and balsamic vein that invites another sip.

Ideal as an accompaniment to rich and structured dishes, such as red meats, game-based dishes and mature cheeses, Salina Rosso PGI is also a meditation wine, capable of offering a profound and nuanced tasting experience, which reflects passion by Carlo Hauner for oenology and his love for the Aeolian Islands.

With its Salina Rosso PGI, the Carlo Hauner winery celebrates the richness and diversity of the Aeolian wine heritage, offering wine enthusiasts an authentic and high-quality product, which tells the story and character of a unique territory.

Winery history
The winery is named after Carlo Hauner, a Brescian artist who in the 1960s moved to Salina and began cultivating and restoring abandoned terraces. The winery's official history begins in 1968; Hauner renewed vineyards and local practices, also experimenting with techniques such as grape drying and fermentation control. The modern winery was built in the 1980s in Lingua. After the founder's death in 1996, management passed to the next generation, which has maintained a focus on Malvasia and local identity; the company website reports a significant production of Malvasia, with about 50,000 bottles cited for this wine.
Production philosophy
Production is based on recovering the local viticultural heritage and on integrating tradition and innovation: adherence to Aeolian practices combined with modern winemaking controls. The winery emphasizes its island origin, the artisanal care of its wines and its visual identity: many labels reproduce works by Carlo Hauner himself. The winery also produces other typical local products, such as capers from Salina.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate is located on the island of Salina in the Aeolian Islands. The vineyards are cultivated on terraces carved into the volcanic rock; the Mediterranean climate and maritime influence, together with volcanic soils, contribute to the mineral and aromatic character of the wines, particularly the Malvasia delle Lipari.
