Durin Winery

The history of the company Durin has distant origins, in fact we are talking about the period dating back to the end of the 19th century when Isidoro Basso, nicknamed with irony by his fellow villagers due to his imposing size "Isidurin" (Isidorino) from which the name of the company originates, he decided to cultivate a plot of land in the Arroscia Valley, in the municipality of Ortovero.

Over the years the land passed to his son Angelo, and he was the one who continued his father's work as a farmer and planted the first vineyards in the 1920s. Angelo will give structure and body to the business and, after him, his footsteps will be followed by the third generation, his son Antonio.

The latter, at the end of the 1970s, decided to abandon his medical studies and devote himself body and soul to the earth. It will be he who chooses the name Durin for the winery, in homage to his grandfather. In 1998 Antonio meets Laura, the initial premises are not very favorable: he is 41 years old and is a vigneron by trade. She is 26, she is teetotal and doesn't know much about wine. Despite this Laura will become "the other half of Durin".

In 2018 the company turned 40 and today it is one of the best known companies in the Ligurian wine scene. Possible heirs of the winemaking tradition are now the sons of Antonio and Laura: Giovanni, 20, Giacomo, 17 and Angelica, 14. The tradition and the passage between old and new generations, therefore, continues, in this wonderful reality that smells of home and of the cellar, the result of experience and knowledge handed down, and which has always proudly held "one foot in tradition and one in the future".
