Winery history Domaine Robert Roth

The Roth family grows vines in Soultz, on the slopes of the Grand Ballon. The first bottled vintage dates to the late 1940s; Robert Roth continued the business from the 1960s, and today the estate is run by members of the third and fourth generations. Over recent decades the estate has moved toward less interventionist winemaking practices and began conversion to organic viticulture in 2016, completed with ECOCERT certification in 2019. Various publications report surface area and production figures that do not always match; these values vary depending on the source.

Production philosophy

The approach favors parcel-level vinification to showcase the terroir: minimal winemaking intervention, extended fermentation times and targeted aging for certain cuvées. The goal is to produce clear, healthy "wines of place" expressive of the soil and exposure, with attention to gastronomy. Since 2016 the vineyard has been converted to organic farming and certified by ECOCERT.

Terroir and vineyards

The domaine is located in Soultz and works several distinct lieux-dits: Mittelbourg, Hornstein, Orschwillerbourg, Binsburg and the Grand Cru Ollwiller. Soils include sandstone and calcareous/marly formations; varying exposures and elevations produce wines with distinct profiles — precise whites, parcelled Pinot Noirs and a traditional Crémant.
