Winery history Henschke

The Henschke family has been growing vines and producing wine in Eden Valley for generations; official records show the family's first commercial vintage in 1868. The vineyard known as Hill of Grace has been part of the family's history since the late 19th century, and the Hill of Grace wine was created as a single-vineyard label beginning with the inaugural 1958 vintage. Over time, management has remained in family hands, with multiple generations involved in production, viticulture and communications.

Production philosophy

Strong emphasis on site quality and the preservation of historic vineyards: management practices aimed at sustainability, careful stewardship of centuries-old vines, and production geared toward expressing each individual vineyard rather than industrialization. The winery applies sustainable agronomic practices, with references to organic/biodynamic approaches in the most historic vineyards.

Terroir and vineyards

Eden Valley with vineyards also in the Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills; notable historic vineyards include Hill of Grace, Mount Edelstone, Lenswood and other parcels in the Eden Valley.

Awards and recognitions

Public recognitions include Henschke being named New World Winery of the Year by Wine Enthusiast. Hill of Grace has been classified in the "Exceptional" category of Langton’s Classification of Australia’s finest wines.
