Winery Poggio alle Monache

The estate has historic origins linked to the large property known as Tenuta di Chiusure and to the Monastero di Santa Marta. Estate records show evidence of historic wine production, and the complex is described as originally dating to the medieval period. In recent years the property has been reorganized as a modern agricultural enterprise with a focus on wine tourism and agritourism.

Enhancing the territory and local production through sustainability-oriented practices: conversion to organic certification, use of traditional and experimental winemaking techniques, and attention to the protection of forests and truffle grounds.

The estate is situated in the Crete Senesi, southeast of Siena, in a hilly area near Montalcino, Montepulciano and the Val d'Orcia. The property comprises vineyards, olive groves and about 44 hectares of woodland and undergrowth, also used for truffle hunting and harvesting. The local soils and microclimate are regarded as particularly well-suited to the area's typical productions.

The winery lists accolades received at specialized events; industry publications also report gold medals at wine competitions for certain vintages and labels.
