Averna Distillery
Since 1868, Amaro Averna, from generation to generation, continues to represent the true Sicilian art by transmitting the aromas and flavors of a wonderful land. The inimitable recipe was given, as a sign of gratitude, by the monk Fra Girolamo to Salvatore Averna. Initially the latter produced amaro exclusively to offer it to their guests during receptions and meetings in his summer home.
It was at the beginning of the 20th century that the recipe passed to Salvatore's son, Francesco; it was thanks to him that the exceptional elixir began to travel outside the island, in Italian and foreign fairs.
Following a visit by King Umberto I, given the great success, he awarded Francesco Averna a gold medal with the symbol of the House of Savoy. Subsequently, Vittorio Emanuele III granted in 1912 to Averna the right to affix the inscription "Brevetto della Real Casa" on its label.
After the difficult period for the great wars, the expansion of Amaro Averna restarts until it reaches the American market. In 1958 the Averna brand becomes a joint stock company, Fratelli Averna S.p.a; since 2014 it has been acquired by the Campari Group, consolidating its position and global portfolio.
