Production method

Ramos Pinto Ports are produced with native Douro grapes, vinified in the company's facilities (primary winemaking at Quinta do Bom Retiro) and then transferred to the historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for ageing. The types follow classic Port processes: grape selection, partial fermentation, fortification and subsequent ageing/blending in casks.

Ageing

Ageing in oak casks and large casks (foudres) with subsequent assemblages and maturation in the historic cellars; for Tawny styles there is selection of wines and long ageing in wood prior to blending.

Producer history Adriano Ramos Pinto

Founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos Pinto, the house grew rapidly thanks to innovative commercial and viticultural choices. During the 20th century Ramos Pinto acquired its own estates to control grape quality: Quinta do Bom Retiro was purchased in 1919, and later Quinta da Urtiga, Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares became part of its holdings. Since 1990 the property has been part of the Champagne Louis Roederer group, while retaining technical management linked to the family and a strong Douro identity.

Production philosophy

Vineyard care and supply-chain control: a high share of estate-owned vineyards, study of the terroir and oenological research. The house highlights individual quintas (single‑quinta) and the blending work carried out by the winemaking team to interpret different Port styles (vintage, tawny, LBV, ruby, white). Culture and heritage (museum with a historical collection) are integral to the company's identity.

Territory

Douro region (Douro Superior and Cima Corgo) with historic cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia; main quintas are Quinta do Bom Retiro, Quinta da Urtiga, Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares.
