Distillation and production

Production method

Production is based on fermentations and distillations in mixed equipment: pot stills and a Coffey column, using different yeasts and, for some expressions, also distillate from cane juice in addition to molasses. Distillates are matured separately by still type in oak barrels and then assembled and rested in oak vats before bottling.

Distillation

Blending of distillates produced in pot stills and in column stills (Coffey). Some specific releases indicate the use of Vendôme and John Dore pot stills for pot still components.

Ageing

Distillates are matured separately by batch and by still type in oak barrels (often ex-bourbon) and subsequently blended; the blend is then rested in wooden vats for several months. Some expressions (e.g. Forgotten Casks, Vintage) receive additional maturation periods or longer ageing and finishes in specific casks.

Producer history Chairman's Reserve

Chairman's Reserve was created in 1999 by Laurie Barnard as a flagship rum line produced by St. Lucia Distillers, a company born from the merger of local distilleries in the 1970s. The brand developed by valuing local tradition and the practice of blending rums from pot stills and column stills. Events such as the fire of May 2, 2007 contributed to notable product stories (e.g. The Forgotten Casks). Blending management continued after Barnard's passing and is still handled by an internal production team.

Production philosophy

The brand's philosophy centers on the art of blending: combining components of different ages, styles, stills and bases to maximize complexity and balance rather than relying solely on age statements. The approach prioritizes consistency of the sensory profile through careful selection and refinement of blends.
