Corralejo is a tequila producer based at the historic Hacienda Corralejo in Pénjamo, Guanajuato (Mexico). It produces a range of 100% Blue Weber agave tequilas — including Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and Extra Añejo expressions — following traditional methods with integrated production from agave harvesting to bottling.
Activities connected to Hacienda Corralejo date back to the 18th century; the historic estate is documented from 1755 and has maintained a long tradition in tequila production. The modern brand was relaunched and organized as a commercial producer in the 1990s and opened new production facilities in the 2000s, establishing itself on international markets.
Production philosophy
Bottling the character of the land: Corralejo emphasizes on-site integrated production (estate-to-bottle), the use of agave grown on its own estate and the enhancement of artisanal and historic techniques to achieve distinctive, recognizable tequilas.
Territory
Pénjamo, Guanajuato, Mexico. Agave cultivated at high altitude in the fields surrounding Hacienda Corralejo.
Production method
Integrated production at the Hacienda: Blue Weber agave grown in the fields of Guanajuato, traditional cooking in stone or clay ovens (with possible integration via autoclave), resting after cooking, juice extraction, fermentation and double distillation. Bottling and bottle manufacturing take place on site; labels are applied by hand.
Distillation
Double distillation according to the Charentais method; use of a combination of columns and copper pot stills.
Ageing
Aging in oak barrels; durations vary by expression (e.g. Reposado about 4 months; Añejo and special expressions up to 12–36 months; 99,000 Horas indicated on some expressions at 18 months).
