Distillation and production

Production method

Artisanal production based on malted barley and water from the River Lossie; malted barley, milling and mash tun, fermentation in washbacks (about 60 hours), distillation in copper pot stills: first pass in three wash stills and second pass in six spirit stills. Aging takes place mainly in American ex-bourbon oak casks, with subsequent finishes in various types of casks for some expressions.

Distillation

Distillation in copper pot stills with two passes: wash stills (3) and spirit stills (6).

Ageing

Maturation mainly in American ex-bourbon oak casks; widespread use of finishes in casks that previously contained wines or fortified wines (sherry, port, chardonnay, cabernet) and experiments with other wood/cask types.

Producer history Glen Moray

The Glen Moray site was originally a brewery (Elgin West Brewery) converted to whisky production in 1897. Over the 20th century production and ownership changed several times; since 2008 the brand and distillery have been part of the French group La Martiniquaise. Historically Glen Moray has fostered a tradition of experimenting with different cask types and finishes, a practice that has shaped its recent development.

Production philosophy

Curiosity and experimentation on the role of casks in creating aromatic profiles: Glen Moray places maturation and the exploration of wood-derived flavors at the center of its work, while maintaining a soft, accessible Speyside style.
