Calvados ExperiMental Springbank Angels by Drouin is a unique distillate that skillfully blends the French traditions of Normandy with the innovative art of Springbank from Campbeltown. Produced in the Calvados region, known for its fruity and aromatic apple ciders, this Calvados expresses the complexity of the local grape variety, namely selected and fermented apples, rigorously distilled and left to mature. The aging method is particularly interesting: Drouin has chosen to age the distillate in oak barrels typical of Scottish whisky tradition, in collaboration with Springbank, thus obtaining intriguing notes of toasted wood, sweet spices, and vanilla.
On the nose, a citrus freshness emerges, accompanied by scents of ripe apple, white flowers, and a subtle minerality that completes the refined character. The palate opens softly with a velvety texture, revealing flavors of dried fruit, honey, and a light smoky hint, in harmony with a long and harmonious finish. Ideal to accompany apple-based desserts, aged cheeses, or simply to be enjoyed neat as an elegant digestif, this experiment is a tribute to the union between two territories rich in history and flavor.
