The Sauternes Lur Saluces A.O.C. 2016, produced by the prestigious Chateau de Fargues, is a sweet white wine of unparalleled elegance and complexity, cherished by collectors and wine lovers around the world. This wine represents one of the most refined expressions of the Sauternes region, famous for its dessert wines.

The 2016 harvest experienced favorable weather conditions that allowed for the production of exceptional quality Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The grapes were carefully selected and handpicked, following the tradition of multiple passes through the vineyards, to ensure that only grapes with the right concentration of natural sugars and the typical noble rot, Botrytis cinerea, were harvested.

The fermentation and aging of this Sauternes partially occur in French oak barrels, adding subtle notes of vanilla and sweet spices that intertwine beautifully with the richness of the fruit. The result is a wine with great structure and longevity, characterized by a splendid aromatic range that spans from acacia honey, dried apricot, to complex notes of caramel and candied citrus.

The Sauternes Lur Saluces 2016 seduces the palate with its perfect balance between sweetness and freshness, offering a long, lingering finish that recreates the various layers of aromas and flavors. This wine is ideal for meditation or paired with dishes such as foie gras, blue cheeses, or fruit-based desserts.

Tasting this Sauternes is a unique experience that reveals the mastery and passion of Chateau de Fargues for creating extraordinary sweet wines.

Château de Fargues – Winery in Sauternes (Bordeaux)

Discover the story and wines of Château de Fargues.

Historic estate in the Sauternais (Bordeaux), known for a Sauternes produced exclusively as a sweet wine from botrytized grapes; owned by the de Lur Saluces family with a long historical continuity.
Region: Sauternes (Bordeaux)
Country: France
Grapes: Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc
Historic estate of the de Lur Saluces family. Single-wine production: Château de Fargues as a Sauternes without a 'second wine'. Vineyard in production covering approximately 25 hectares, with grapes predominantly Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Declared average production of around 15,000–20,000 bottles, with operational estimates of approximately 18,000 bottles in recent vintages. The winery is characterized by a strong focus on tradition, grape selection and aging in wooden barrels.
Winery history
The estate has been part of the local history for centuries and is linked to the de Lur Saluces family; according to the official website the property entered the family in the 15th century and the first vintage bottled under the Château de Fargues label dates from the 20th century. Over the course of the 20th century the family gradually developed Sauternes viticulture on the estate’s lower-lying land and, after Alexandre de Lur Saluces’ tenure, management continued with a renovation of the vineyard and facilities.
Production philosophy
Production focused on quality and selection: late harvests carried out to pick grapes affected by "pourriture noble", careful vinification in oak and low yields to enhance concentration and longevity. The winery favors a traditional approach aimed at showcasing the terroir and the expressiveness of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the Sauternes appellation, in the Gironde department, the estate is set on a rise that benefits from a microclimate conducive to the development of 'pourriture noble' thanks to its proximity to watercourses and the Landes forest.
