The Rosso DOC Faro by Le Casematte is an illustrious example of how Sicily, a land rich in winemaking history, can express red wines of great character and complexity. Located near the Strait of Messina, the Le Casematte winery is immersed in a unique landscape, where the volcanic terroir and the influence of the Mediterranean sea play a crucial role in defining the profile of its wines. The Faro appellation is one of the gems of the region, characterized by wines that reflect an incredible balance between power and elegance.

The Rosso DOC Faro by Le Casematte is the result of a careful blend of native vines, mainly Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, with the addition of other local varieties such as Nocera. These vines, grown on ancient terraces overlooking the sea, benefit from a unique microclimate which favors slow and complete ripening of the grapes, giving the wine a distinctive aromatic richness and freshness.

Winemaking aims to preserve the varietal characteristics and expression of the terroir. After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo a traditional fermentation, followed by aging in wood which harmonises the flavors and adds complexity to the wine without overpowering its fruity and floral identity.

Visually, the lighthouse has a deep and bright ruby red color. On the nose, it offers an intense aromatic expression, where the aromas of red and black fruits, such as cherries, plums and small berries, intertwine with spicy, balsamic notes and a light touch of minerality, testifying to the complexity and aromatic stratification that this wine is able to offer.

In the mouth, the Faro di Le Casematte reveals an elegant and balanced structure, supported by fine tannins and a lively acidity that give freshness and drinkability. Ripe fruit flavors mix with accents of aromatic herbs, sweet spices and a subtle mineral undertone, leading to a long and persistent finish, marking a memorable tasting experience.

Ideal as an accompaniment to rich and savory dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, red meats, game and mature cheeses, the Rosso DOC Faro by Le Casematte is a testimony to Sicilian wine excellence, offering wine lovers a sip of the historic and fascinating land of Sicily .

Winery history
Le Casematte began as an enological project founded by Gianfranco Sabbatino and Andrea Barzagli with the aim of raising the profile of the Faro appellation. The name comes from the presence, within the vineyards, of two casematte visible in the landscape; the venture is presented as a meeting between local tradition and modern winemaking choices.
Production philosophy
Small-scale, terroir-focused production: the producer favors indigenous grape varieties and low‑impact farming practices, limiting the use of new oak in aging to preserve freshness and a sense of place in the wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Vineyards on the hills of Contrada Corso, on the heights north of Messina overlooking the Strait of Messina, at an altitude of around 500 metres above sea level. The microclimate is influenced by sea breezes between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, with pronounced day–night temperature variations that promote the aromatic development of the grapes.
Awards and recognitions
The winery and some of its vintages have received ratings and recognition from guides and critics; praise has appeared in publications and among retailers.
