Bosteels Brewery

The Bosteels Brewery has its origins in 1791, when Jean Baptiste Bosteels moved with his family to a new farm in Buggenhout, Belgium. Here the sons Everest and Jean Francois begin to ferment; Jean Francois, as evidenced by some writings found in the archives of the municipality of Buggenhout, was declared the first official brewer of the country. The business immediately became a great success, and in 1856 they managed to build a large and elegant villa near the brewery, which was also inhabited by the descendants of the family until the 1970s.

Ivo Bosteels at the end of the 1970s begins the production of Pauwel Kwak, an amber beer with 8% alcohol that was served in a rather original glass dating back to the time of Napoleon. The excellent combination of beer and "particular" container has an incredible and immediate success. Its original ampoule shape, with a long flared neck towards the mouth, allowed beer to be drunk without spilling it due to jolts, even for postillions and coachmen.

In 1996, instead, Tripel Karmeliet was born, a beer brewed with wheat, barley and oats, produced following an ancient recipe dating back to 1679 found in the library of the Dendermonde monastery. Another exquisite specialty, aromatic, full-bodied and exceptionally drinkable, a drink that immediately conquers the palate of true connoisseurs, but also newbies. A beer that has become a great icon of style and taste all over the world.
