Greppo Winery

We are at the beginning of the mid-nineteenth century when, thanks to the work and passion of Clemente Santi, the wine history of this winery in Montalcino begins. A centuries-old history of passion, tradition, experience and love for the territory; Clemente devoted most of his life to studying Sangiovese in the Greppo estate owned by his mother Petronilla Canali.

The results of his great work were not long in coming and in fact he was awarded several prizes at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1867, where his wines imposed themselves on the world wine scene for their absolute elegance and quality. Since then the road was always uphill, giving the Biondi Santi family the undisputed leadership in the Montalcino area and for the production of Brunello.

The heart of the cellar coincides with the historic Tenuta Greppo; a vineyard extension of twenty-five hectares in which only Sangiovese grosso plants are found. Its cultivation takes place on soils rich in marl. The harvest is done as it once was and therefore completely manual, and sees the careful selection of the grapes, so as to allocate only the first choice to the production of Brunello, coming from vines of at least 10 years of age for the "vintage" type and beyond 25 years for the Reserve.

The grapes are then de-stemmed and after crushing, they are fermented in large concrete tanks and vats at a controlled temperature and then passed into Slavonian oak barrels for the appropriate maturation period. A procedure in the name of the most rigorous of traditions, for an inimitable and incomparable Brunello.
