Oremus Winery

Oremus is a company that joined with the illustrious Spanish estate Vega Sicilia in 1993, adopting its philosophy and evolved further. Thus, in this prestigious Hungarian vineyard the continuous pursuit of excellence is applied, and respect and harmony with nature are also on the agenda.

The evolution of Tokaj has grown continuously and developed over its four hundred years of history; but it was in 1630 that the grandeur of the vineyard of Oremus was spoken of for the first time. Today it is the most prestigious and most universally successful.

The notoriety of the winery dates back to the 1630s, when Maté Szepsi Lacko produced the first "Tokaj dripping wine", from grapes from the vineyards of Oremus. He offered that nectar to the wife of the Prince of Transylvania, Princess Susana Lorántffy, a tribute like thanks for the kindness shown to the people of Tokaj A century later, Oremus was one of the most successful and renowned estates in the world.

The Tokaj region is located within the mountain range of northeastern Hungary, and the Oremus company is located in its geographical heart. The use of the name given to the wine is exclusive to this historic region, and it is also one of the European wine territories to have been named UNESCO HERITAGE.

The estate cultivates a 115-hectare vineyard perched on steep hills, the different exposures of which allow for optimal ripening of the special local grape varieties (furmint, harslevelü, zéta and sárgamuskot. clayey-sandy, on a volcanic subsoil, at an altitude between 150 and 300 m s.l.m.

All these conditions together with the absolutely particular and unique climate, given the southern exposure, and the influence of the Tibrisco and Bodrog rivers, form an absolutely inimitable microclimate. A special habitat, more than suitable for the development of Botrytis cinerea on the berries, the famous "Noble Mold", which largely make the magic that develops in this unique and inimitable wine possible.
