Winery history Il Marroneto

The estate traces its origins to Giuseppe Mori’s purchase of the property in 1974; the first vine plantings were carried out from 1975. The Mori family, with Andrea and Alessandro, began their initial vinifications in the late 1970s and produced their first official bottle at the end of the 1970s/early 1980s. Over time Alessandro consolidated the winery’s identity, expanding the production facilities in the 1990s and maintaining a production rooted in the tradition of Montalcino.

Production philosophy

Traditional, minimalist philosophy: a strong focus on vineyard health, low-intervention practices, spontaneous fermentations where possible, and ageing in large oak casks to preserve the expressiveness of Sangiovese.

Terroir and vineyards

Vineyards located on the north-facing slope of the Montalcino hill, in a terroir characterized by marine sediments, coarse sandy deposits mixed with minerals, and sandy, stony soils. Among the historic vineyards, the vineyard near the little chapel of the Madonna delle Grazie stands out.

Awards and recognitions

It regularly receives very high scores from international critics across multiple vintages; particularly high ratings have been reported for the "Madonna delle Grazie" selection and its Riserva.
