Silvio Carta Distillery

The Silvio Carta company was founded in Baratile San Pietro, Sardinia, in the early 1950s. Silvio immediately devoted himself to the most traditional of local wine production: Vernaccia di Oristano. A precious liquid of a magnificent amber gold color, a combination of nobility and generosity that, from the first sip, bewitches and conquers. A careful and skilful vinification, the prolonged rest in cask and the loving care of the Maison Silvio Carta, has led this incredible wine to be an authentic glory of Sardinian enology.

Sixty years have passed since then, but Vernaccia still remains a family matter. But there is more. Since 1972, his son Elio has been at the helm of Silvio Carta, who with deep passion and innovative attention also produces "reserve" Mirto, London Dry Gin, Vermouth and typical spirits, sold all over the world, as delicious samples of an ancient land and luxuriant. Many countries of the world today can enjoy the scent of juniper, myrtle and citrus fruits of Sardinia, thanks to the excellences signed by Silvio Carta.

Immediately after the Second World War, many distilleries were born in Sardinia, almost all of smuggling; the authorities were very careful but despite this, everything that the territory offered was distilled. Vernaccia and juniper were preferred in Oristano and its surroundings; from the distillation of the pomace filu 'e ferru was produced, from the wine the abbardenti, while the juniper distillate was GINIU from the Sardinian "Giniperu" or juniper.

In the 1960s the production of contraband ceased and the demand decreased significantly until 2013 when Silvio Carta, through the "renaissance" of distillates, decided to focus on discontinuous distillation in order to obtain all the best from each raw material, such as wild juniper and Vernaccia pomace. Thus was born the winning Gin poker of the company: Giniu, Pigskin, Boigin and Grifu.
