Tenuta La Chiusa

The vineyards of Tenuta la Chiusa date back to the end of the 1500s; they are exposed to the east-west in the Magazzini plain and lap the sea of the Gulf of Portoferraio. Its name represents the long wall that has surrounded the 20 hectares of the farm since 1700, protecting it from heavy winter storms. The proximity of the sea creates a perfect microclimate, with a unique terroir rich in iron and clay that gives life to a distinctive brand for the estate's products.

Currently the company cultivated 13.5 hectares of vineyards, and mainly the grapes grown are native to Elba: Vermentino, Aleatico, Ansonica, Sangiovese and Trebbiano. In the wine sector, the Chiusa represents the historical memory of the Elban tradition, which has always been renowned, the estate was also visited by Napoleon during a visit to those wonderful territories. In the same period of the birth of the surrounding walls, the cellar was built with the large main building and the Gentilizia chapel; subsequently, they laid the foundations of the large patronal Villa with the double staircase.

The Senno family founded the company and immediately began the production of wine; in the mid-19th century the Foresi family bought the business and over the course of 150 years, with the succession of generations, has brought the name of the Chiusa to levels of high quality and prestige. The latest descendant of the Foresi family, who has been able to enhance the products and the company even more, is Mrs. Giuliana who has dedicated so much passion and dedication to us.

Since 2003, the estate has changed the owner again, and Mrs. Giuliana Bertozzi Corradi and family took over the management, with the aim of taking the name of the winery to the highest levels. Under their management, all the company's properties have been restored, with the desire to carry on centuries of tradition, history and work done with passion and commitment. New barbette of Ansonica and Aleatico, two autochthonous passito vines of great value, were planted and the area under vines increased.

The range of DOC wines produced includes: red, white and rosé Elba, Ansonica and Aleatico, while the Grecale IGT is produced from Merlot and Sangiovese grapes.
The winery also produces very few single-variety Aleatico grappas and single-grape Sangiovese brandy.
