The Sangiovese IGT Toscana "Colmaia" by Badia a Coltibuono is a masterful demonstration of the ability of the Sangiovese grape to express elegance, depth and complexity when grown in the lands rich in history and tradition of Tuscany. Badia a Coltibuono, one of the historic wineries of the region, with roots dating back to 1051, is committed not only to the production of high quality wines but also to the conservation of biodiversity and Tuscan food and wine culture.
"Colmaia" is a pure expression of Sangiovese, selected from vineyards located in one of the most suitable areas of Tuscany. The winery adopts organic farming practices, convinced that respect for the land and the environment are fundamental to obtaining superior quality grapes. This philosophy translates into wines that are true reflections of their terroir, with a strong identity and an indissoluble bond with their territory of origin.
The vinification of "Colmaia" follows a traditional approach, enhancing the varietal characteristics of Sangiovese. After a manual harvest of the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, to preserve the fresh and fruity aromas. The wine is then aged in oak barriques, where it acquires complexity, balance and a subtle spicy note, which harmonizes perfectly with the fruity character of the Sangiovese.
Visually, "Colmaia" presents itself with an intense and bright ruby red color. On the nose, the wine expresses a rich and varied bouquet, with notes of cherry, blackberry and raspberry, enriched by nuances of violet, tobacco and a light spiciness, which reflect the elegance and complexity typical of the best Tuscan Sangiovese.
In the mouth, "Colmaia" offers a well-defined structure, with fine and well-integrated tannins that support an intense and persistent flavor texture. The acidity is lively, contributing to the overall balance of the wine and ensuring a long aromatic persistence. The finish is long and satisfying, with a return of the fruity and spicy notes perceptible on the nose.
