The Mathusalem format (6 litres) of Tenuta San Guido's Guidalberto IGT represents a work of oenological art, a symbol of luxury and magnificence. This exceptional wine, encapsulated in an impressive container, is a tribute to the viticultural mastery of Tuscany, offering a unique sensorial experience for the most discerning wine lovers.

The greatness of this format is not only physical but extends to the quality and depth of the wine itself. Produced from a skilful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Guidalberto Mathusalem expresses the excellence of the Bolgheri terroir, with a complexity and evolution in the glass that are enhanced by the greater interaction between the wine and oxygen, allowed by the volume of the Mathusalem.

On the nose, it presents an explosion of aromas: ripe black fruit, notes of sweet spices, vanilla and a hint of aromatic herbs, all harmonized by a wood refinement that adds layers of complexity without overwhelming the freshness of the fruit. The tasting reveals an extraordinarily balanced palate, with a finely woven tannin texture and lively acidity leading to a persistent and majestic finish.

In addition to its superb oenological quality, Guidalberto's Mathusalem becomes a real center of attraction on every occasion, symbolizing sharing and celebration. It is perfect for large events, weddings or as a collector's piece in a prestigious cellar, promising to evolve and improve as the years pass, thanks to its extraordinary aging capacity.

Pairing this wine requires equally majestic dishes, such as elaborate preparations of red meats, game dishes rich in flavor or mature cheeses with character. The Guidalberto IGT in Mathusalem format is not just a wine but an experience, which celebrates the greatness of Italian viticulture and the art of conviviality.

Tenuta San Guido – Winery in Toscana

Discover the story and wines of Tenuta San Guido.

A winery in the Tuscan Maremma (Bolgheri) known for the celebrated Sassicaia, a Bordeaux-style Super‑Tuscan.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese
Producer of Sassicaia, the emblematic label of the "Super Tuscan" movement. Estate covering approximately 2,500 hectares in Maremma di Bolgheri. Two second wines are already on the market: Guidalberto and Le Difese. Diversified agricultural production: vineyards, olive groves, and initiatives related to wildlife and land conservation. Collaboration for the "Grappa di Sassicaia" distilled by Poli, using pomace from Tenuta San Guido.
Winery history
The estate is tied to the Incisa della Rocchetta family: Mario Incisa began experimenting with French varieties in Bolgheri and the private production of Sassicaia became commercial with the 1968 harvest. Over time Nicolò Incisa and his collaboration with winemaker Giacomo Tachis helped consolidate its reputation; subsequently the estate expanded its range with Guidalberto and Le Difese. Sassicaia obtained a reserved denomination, which reinforced the label’s distinctiveness.
Production philosophy
The estate's philosophy emphasizes respect for the ecosystem, the balance between people and nature, and an agricultural approach attentive to quality; the estate states agronomic practices aimed at soil care and sustainable management of its crops.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate extends into the Tuscan Maremma, in the Bolgheri area, on predominantly gravelly and stony soils reminiscent of the Graves formations in Bordeaux. The microclimate benefits from the maritime influence and the shelter of the hills behind it, factors that contribute to its suitability for Bordeaux grape varieties.
Awards and recognitions
International recognition for Sassicaia includes top scores from international critics and prominent placements in landmark tastings, such as the Decanter tasting in which Sassicaia was acknowledged. In addition, the 2015 vintage was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator.
