The Barbaresco DOCG Riserva Albesani Santo Stefano produced by Castello di Neive represents one of the highest expressions of Nebbiolo, the result of a careful selection of the best grapes coming from the homonymous "Albesani" vineyard located in the renowned Santo Stefano area, in the heart of the Barbaresco denomination . The peculiarity of this reserve lies in its ability to express the unique character and complexity of the specific terroir from which it comes, combining the power of Nebbiolo with the elegance and finesse that only the best Barbarescos can offer.

The Albesani vineyard is famous for its favorable microclimate and soil rich in marl and clay, ideal conditions for the cultivation of Nebbiolo, which in this particular location manages to express depth, aromatic intensity and a tannic structure of great elegance. Castello di Neive, with its long history and its profound knowledge of viticulture in Piedmont, adopts sustainable practices and winemaking techniques aimed at preserving the integrity of the fruit and the typicality of the vineyard.

The Riserva Albesani Santo Stefano undergoes a meticulous winemaking process, with controlled fermentation followed by a long maceration to extract color, aromas and tannins in a balanced way. The refinement, which lasts for a longer period than normal Barbaresco, takes place in oak barrels of various sizes, to harmonize the wine and add complexity without overpowering the varietal aromas.

At sight, the wine presents the typical garnet red color of Nebbiolo, with orange reflections that intensify with aging. On the nose, the Albesani Santo Stefano Riserva unfolds a rich and complex bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruits, rose petals, spices, leather and a light mineral vein that gives freshness and depth. In the mouth, the wine expresses a remarkable concentration, with silky tannins and a solid structure that supports a long and persistent finish, characterized by a perfect balance between power and finesse.

Ideal in combination with elaborate meat-based dishes, such as braised meats and roasts, dishes based on mushrooms and truffles, and mature cheeses, the Barbaresco DOCG Riserva Albesani Santo Stefano del Castello di Neive is a wine that enchants for its ability to combine the tradition and excellence of Barbaresco, offering a high-level tasting experience that is further enriched with ageing.

Winery history
The estate is housed in an 18th-century noble palace. The Stupino family began modern operations in the 1960s and has owned the Castello since 1964; over time it has reorganized historic vineyards and renovated the cellars. Among the most frequently mentioned company developments are the enhancement of the Santo Stefano vineyard and the opening, in 2016, of “La Casetta del Castello” as a space for tours and tastings.
Production philosophy
It combines traditional roots with a modern approach: emphasis on the terroir and individual vineyards, separate vinifications for the finest parcels, use of the historic cellar for oak aging alongside modern technical facilities, and sustainability-oriented practices.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the municipality of Neive, in the heart of the Langhe, the estate benefits from historic vineyards including Santo Stefano, Gallina, Messoirano, Montebertotto, i Cortini, Marcorino, Basarin and Valtorta. The Santo Stefano vineyard is often noted for its distinctive exposure and microclimate and is mapped in the estate's historical records.
