This 1976 Armagnac signed by Rounagle, housed in a wooden presentation box, reveals the complexity typical of long maturation without tipping into showiness. The color is deep amber; on the nose alternate notes of dried fruit (plum and fig), aged honey, vanilla and a hint of leather and tobacco; the wood is perceived as structure rather than an overlay, offering sweet spices and a light note of toasted nuts. The palate is warm and rounded, with good fullness, balanced between softness and a fresh, subtle acidity that keeps the warmth in check.

It lends itself to a slow tasting, served neat in a tulip glass at room temperature to appreciate its aromatic echoes and persistence. It’s a bottle for contemplation and gifting — the box enhances the presentation: it pairs well with dark chocolate, aged cheeses or a cigar for those who enjoy intense pairings; just a small glass is enough to capture the richness and finesse of this vintage.
