Let’s talk about Brunello di Montalcino DOCG - Sugarile – Pieve Santa Restituta Gaja

More questions

Il Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Sugarile by Pieve Santa Restituta, a company belonging to the Gaja universe, represents a refined expression of Sangiovese in Tuscany. Produced in the historic area of Montalcino, this wine comes from privileged vineyards, where the clay and limestone soil enhances the minerality and structure of the noble grape variety. The aging takes place traditionally in oak barrels, which impart elegance and complexity to the bouquet, enriched by aromas of ripe cherry, sweet spices, and a delicate balsamic note.

On the palate, it is harmonious and full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long persistence that recalls the land of origin. Thanks to its structure, Sugarile pairs splendidly with red meats, game, and aged cheeses, embodying with balance the authentic character of Brunello. A wine that tells the Tuscan tradition with an innovative outlook, capable of exciting with every sip.

The story
Pieve Santa Restituta winery was founded by Roberto Bellini in 1974; in 1994 the estate was acquired by the Gaja family. The name comes from the ancient pieve at the centre of the estate, whose historical traces are very old and whose grounds have been cultivated with vines for centuries.
Production philosophy
Management focused on soil care and the protection of ampelographic heritage: vineyard restoration, use of compost to enhance soil fertility, and careful preservation of older vines. Production emphasizes Sangiovese, in keeping with the territorial characteristics of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
Terroir and vineyards
Situated in the municipality of Montalcino, with vineyards on Eocene-origin hills facing south and southwest; at an altitude of approximately 320–350 metres above sea level. The area lies within the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, on the southwest side of the DOCG.
