Château Cos d'Estournel, positioned majestically in the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux, is a wine icon, known for its distinctive style and its exotic architecture that reflects the interest of its founder, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, for the East. This second Grand Cru Classé estate, according to the Bordeaux classification of 1855, stands out for the production of wines that are a perfect fusion of power and elegance, faithfully expressing the rich terroir of Saint-Estèphe.

The Cos d'Estournel vineyard extends over exceptional soil, with a high concentration of gravel, which facilitates drainage and reflects solar heat, thus promoting optimal ripening of the grapes. The estate places particular emphasis on sustainable cultivation and careful selection of grapes, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with additions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, to create its distinctive blend.

Château Cos d'Estournel's winemaking philosophy aims to preserve the integrity and purity of the fruit, using modern and traditional techniques that include controlled fermentation and meticulous aging in partially new French oak barriques. This approach ensures that each vintage reflects the complexity, structure and balance that are the hallmarks of Cos d'Estournel wines.

Upon tasting, Château Cos d'Estournel presents itself with a deep and intense color. On the nose, the wine reveals a complex bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, spices, chocolate, and notes of tobacco and cedar, the result of elegant aging in wood. In the mouth, the wine exhibits a rich tannic structure, perfectly balanced by a lively acidity that gives freshness and longevity. The depth of flavors evolves towards a long and persistent finish, which leaves a sensation of refinement and controlled power.

Château Cos d'Estournel is renowned for its remarkable aging potential, which allows the wine to develop extraordinary complexity and aromatic nuances over time. It is an ideal wine for special occasions and pairs beautifully with rich, flavorful dishes, such as roasted red meats, game and mature cheeses.

In conclusion, Château Cos d'Estournel is an emblem of Saint-Estèphe excellence, which continues to enchant wine lovers around the world with its unique combination of tradition and innovation, strength and finesse. It represents a masterpiece of Bordeaux viticulture, offering an unforgettable tasting experience that testifies to the greatness of its territory.

Winery history
Viticulture in the Saint-Estèphe area dates back to Roman times; significant development took place in the Middle Ages thanks to trade with England. The gradual drainage of marshland from the 17th century expanded the area available for cultivation. The region received official recognition as an AOC in 1936 and has since consolidated its oenological identity within the Médoc.
Production philosophy
Winemaking aims to showcase the terroir: gravelly soils with a relatively higher clay content provide structure and aging potential. The appellation's wines favor tannin extraction and aging, with blends often dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon but with significant use of Merlot to round out the younger wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Situated at the northernmost point of the Médoc’s communal appellations, Saint-Estèphe borders Pauillac and stretches along the left bank of the Gironde. The soils are typically gravelly, and the climate is moderated by the influence of the large estuary.
