The Cossart Gordon Bual 1987 is another magnificent example of Madeira winemaking mastery, brought to you by the historic collaboration between Gordon and Blandy's, two of the most respected wine houses on the island of Madeira. This particular vintage stands out for its extraordinary combination of aromatic intensity and structural finesse, representing a living testimony to the quality and aging capacity of Madeira wines.

Made from Bual grapes, a grape variety that naturally produces wines of a certain sweetness and richness, the Cossart Gordon Bual 1987 has undergone the traditional Madeiran aging process, which includes estufagem, exposing the wine to moderate heat for an extended period . This unique method not only stabilizes the wine but also enriches its flavor profile, giving it exceptional complexity and longevity.

Visually, the wine presents itself with a deep amber color, which invites tasting. On the nose, it opens with a wide range of aromas: from candied and dried fruit, such as apricots and raisins, to nuances of toffee, chocolate and a range of exotic spices. Prolonged maturation has allowed the development of intricate olfactory overlays, including hints of cedar wood, tobacco and a light balsamic touch that adds depth and richness.

In the mouth, Cossart Gordon's 1987 Bual demonstrates extraordinary elegance, with a sweetness well balanced by a lively acidity that gives freshness to the palate. The texture is seductive, almost silky, with a medium-full palate that explodes in a variety of flavors that echo the sense of smell. The finish is long and persistent, with a beautiful harmony between the sweet notes and the more mature and evolved ones, leaving a final impression of completeness and satisfaction.

This wine is ideal for moments of meditation or as an accompaniment at the end of a meal, perfect with mature cheeses, fruit-based desserts or alone, as the conclusion of a gastronomic experience. Its complexity also makes it an excellent candidate for conversation, capable of evolving and revealing new nuances in the glass.

Cossart Gordon Bual 1987 is more than just a wine; it is a liquid work of art that captures the essence of Madeira, offering a tasting experience that is both a journey through time and an exploration of the depth and richness that only the finest Madeira wines can offer.

Winery history
Blandy’s is one of the historic names in Madeira production: the Blandy family has led the company for generations, and the label is recognised for preserving traditional ageing techniques and for operating the Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Over the years the company has kept collections of vintage bottles and expanded its portfolio to include frasqueiras, colheitas and blends of different ages.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for traditional Madeira winemaking practices—ageing in the island’s characteristic rooms and casks—with initiatives in innovation and sustainability. The winery emphasises the varietal origins of its wines and the care taken in ageing to express the different styles of Madeira.
Terroir and vineyards
Operations are concentrated on the island of Madeira, with the winery and Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. Grapes are sourced from several areas of the island, including Seixal, Câmara de Lobos and Jardim da Serra, and the producer also uses cooler sites, such as Caniçal, for certain ageing.
