Costalunga Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOC from Bersano shows an intense ruby color, lively in the glass. On the nose it offers ripe cherry and plum, interspersed with hints of mixed berries and a mild spicy touch that does not overpower the fruit; delicate floral notes and a slightly savory undertone also emerge. On the palate it is bright and full-bodied, supported by the typical Barbera acidity that highlights the weight without weighing it down, with soft but present tannins that sustain good persistence. It shows a convincing aromatic progression that maintains the balance between freshness and structure.

It is a direct, characterful wine, capable of accompanying savory dishes while remaining pleasantly drinkable; it pairs well with pasta with ragù, braised meats, roasts and cured meats, as well as medium-aged cheeses and dishes from the Piedmontese tradition. Serve slightly cool to enhance its liveliness, or open some time beforehand to let its deeper aromas breathe. It lends itself to rustic pairings without sacrificing an elegant drinking experience.
