M. Chapoutier's Crozes-Hermitage Rouge "Les Meysonniers" is a distinctive expression of the Syrah grape variety from the northern Rhône Valley, France. This wine comes from the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, the largest in the Hermitage area, and represents one of the most accessible and enjoyable examples of the winemaking mastery of Michel Chapoutier, a producer who places a strong emphasis on respect for terroir and biodynamic agriculture .
"Les Meysonniers" is produced using Syrah grapes from old vines, some of which are over 40 years old. These old vines contribute to greater concentration and complexity in the wine. Chapoutier uses biodynamic viticulture practices to emphasize the purity and authenticity of the fruit, with an approach that minimizes human and chemical intervention in both the vineyard and cellar.
Visually, the Crozes-Hermitage "Les Meysonniers" presents itself with a deep, vibrant red color. On the nose, it offers a rich and aromatic bouquet, with dominant notes of red and black fruits, such as blackberries, raspberries and plums, accompanied by spicy accents, notes of black pepper and a light floral touch. The wood maturation is well integrated, adding complexity without overpowering the freshness of the fruit.
In the mouth, the wine is characterized by a robust but balanced structure, with fine tannins and lively acidity which enhances its freshness and drinkability. The aromatic richness perceived on the nose is also found on the palate, evolving towards a long and persistent finish that leaves an impression of elegance and refinement.
"Les Meysonniers" is ideal as an accompaniment to rich and tasty meat dishes, such as stews, roasts and game dishes. It also pairs well with mature cheeses and spicy dishes, thanks to its structure and aromatic profile.
