The Merlot DOC Riserva Sossò by Livio Felluga comes from the Colli Orientali Friuliani denomination and is presented with discretion and care. It is a red wine based on Merlot, identified as Riserva Sossò in the producer's range; I note its restrained character and balance between fruit component and tannic structure, without advancing technical details not provided. The packaging and label reflect the winery's approach, aiming for a measured and recognizable expression within the mentioned territorial context. It represents a deliberate option within the producer's portfolio.

For service, I suggest bringing it to a moderate temperature around 16–18 °C and, if desired, opening in advance to allow aromatic opening. It pairs well with dishes based on red meats not overly spiced, roasts, game birds and semi-hard or moderately aged cheeses. It is a choice suitable for those seeking a Merlot DOC recognizable in its denomination and under the Livio Felluga name, without undocumented oenological claims. Consider tasting it alongside seasonal preparations to appreciate its balance.

Winery history
Founded by Livio Felluga in 1956 after the post‑war rebuilding; Livio is regarded as the 'patriarch' of Friulian winemaking (he died in the night between Dec 21–22, 2016). The estate is family‑run (children Maurizio, Filippo, Elda and Andrea). The wine 'Illivio' was created by his children in 1998 and dedicated to him for his 85th birthday.
Production philosophy
Terroir-focused approach: careful vineyard work, respect for the territory (Rosazzo) and pursuit of quality. The 'Carta Geografica' serves as a manifesto of regional identity; wines are elegant, age-worthy and strongly expressive of place.
Terroir and vineyards
Vineyards located on the Rosazzo ridge and in the Colli Orientali del Friuli (province of Gorizia). Soils listed in technical sheets: marl and sandstone flysch of Eocene origin.
Awards and recognitions
