Semele is a Montefalco Sagrantino Passito DOCG made by Cesarini Sartori in Umbria from 100% Sagrantino grapes. It reflects the traditional passito style of Montefalco and showcases the intense, deep character of this native grape variety. The grapes are hand-harvested during the third decade of October and carefully selected before vinification. In the glass, it has an impenetrable deep ruby-red color. Its bouquet reveals blackberry jam, dried figs, dates and raisins, followed by notes of orange peel, cooked apple, dried plum and balsamic nuances.
On the palate, Semele is soft, balanced and persistent, with flavors of licorice, blackberry and plum jam, raisins, dried figs, dates, cloves and cinnamon. The wine is aged in steel, wood and glass; the producer also indicates 12 months in large casks and barriques. The 375 ml bottle is ideal for finishing a meal or enjoying a special tasting moment. Serve at 16-18 °C. It pairs well with aged cheeses, biscuits, fruit tarts and desserts made with dark chocolate.
