Descrizione

In the glass it shows a light ruby color with purplish highlights, an open and frank expression of the terroir. The aromas recall ripe red fruit — cherry and strawberry — accompanied by gentle Mediterranean notes of aromatic herbs and a subtle spiciness. The olfactory profile is direct yet detailed, with a sense of cleanliness and freshness that invites a sip; the style is immediate, fresh and complete, suitable both for informal conviviality and for heartier dishes.

On the palate it offers medium body, good acidity and soft but present tannins: the drink is juicy and smooth, supported by a sapidity that adds tension and a pleasantly dry finish. Fruity echoes emerge together with a slight earthy undertone that lengthens its persistence. It pairs naturally with grilled meats, pasta with ragù, light game and semi-aged cheeses; serve at around 16–18 °C and, if desired, it can benefit from a short decanting to open up further.

Winery history

The estate has been linked to the Colombini family for centuries; historical records indicate the presence of the Colombini in Montalcino since 1352 and the Fattoria dei Barbi since the late 18th century. The estate preserves historic vintages of Brunello and has contributed to the export of Brunello to international markets.

Production philosophy

The winemaking approach combines respect for Montalcino traditions with the adoption of modern cellar technologies, aiming to preserve the classic character of the wines while improving their quality and consistency.

Terroir and vineyards

The estate operates in the Montalcino area, with holdings also in Scansano and in parts of Chianti in southern Tuscany; one of the crus mentioned is Vigna del Fiore, located in the southern part of the Montalcino appellation.
