Winery in the Toro appellation (Valdefinjas, Castilla y León) known for three single-varietal labels produced exclusively from Tinta de Toro; home of the Numanthia project within the Moët Hennessy (LVMH) group.
Region: Toro, Castilla y León
Country: Spagna
Founded: 1998
Grapes: Tinta de Toro
Production is focused on three labels: Termes, Numanthia and Termanthia. Wines produced exclusively from Tinta de Toro. Old vineyards and many ungrafted parcels. Estate of approximately 83 hectares. Joined the Moët Hennessy group; organic certification reported by the winery.
Winery history
The winery began as a winemaking project in the late 1990s and is officially recorded as founded in 1998. The founders brought together small plots of old, ungrafted vines in the Valdefinjas area with the aim of expressing the local grape variety Tinta de Toro. The label has received international recognition and in 2008 became part of the Moët Hennessy group. In subsequent years the owners have focused on preserving the historic vineyards and adopting certified agronomic practices.
Production philosophy
Seeking expression of the territory through old vines and careful production choices: single-varietal wines from Tinta de Toro, low yields, harvesting and winemaking aimed at respecting the grapes and enhancing the concentration and finesse derived from century-old vineyards; a gradual transition toward certified practices in support of sustainability.
Terroir and vineyards
It is part of the DO Toro, with vineyards scattered around the municipality of Valdefinjas. The soils are clayey and the vineyards are divided into distinct plots; the winery owns notable parcels and cultivates very old ungrafted vines that impart structure and concentration to the grapes.
Awards and recognitions
International recognitions for quality. The winery also states that the estate and its owned vineyards are organically certified.
