The Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG "Sfursat Carlo Negri" from the Nino Negri winery is one of the highest expressions of Valtellina wine, a product of exceptional quality that combines the strength and elegance of Nebbiolo, locally known as Chiavennasca. This wine stands out for its unique production process, in which the grapes are dried before vinification, giving extraordinary concentration and complexity.

At sight, Sfursat Carlo Negri has an intense garnet red color, tending towards orange with maturation. On the nose, the bouquet is rich and enveloping, with intense aromas of dried fruit, plums, cherries in alcohol and spicy notes, which reflect its evolution in the barrel.

In the mouth, the wine expresses a powerful but harmonious structure. The tannins are present but well integrated, and the acidity is balanced, which contributes to a sensation of elegance and roundness. The flavors are an explosion of dried fruit, notes of tobacco and spices, with a long and persistent finish that leaves a pleasant memory.

Region: Lombardia
Country: Italia
Founded: 1897

Specialist in Chiavennasca and the historic subzones. It owns and manages terraced mountain vineyards covering approximately 33 hectares of its own, in addition to longstanding collaborations with many Valtellina families. A leading producer of Valtellina Sfursat, with iconic labels such as the 5 Stelle. Historic headquarters within a 15th-century palazzo in Chiuro, combining tradition with winemaking innovation. Company within Gruppo Italiano Vini.
Winery history
Founded by Nino Negri and with deep roots in Chiuro, the winery has more than a century of history. The company website records historical milestones, from the 15th‑century palazzo that houses the winery to the company's official registration and subsequent phases of growth; in recent years Nino Negri joined Gruppo Italiano Vini and has benefited from the work of prominent oenologists who contributed to the winery's qualitative development.
Production philosophy
The winery aims to highlight the distinctive character of Chiavennasca through mountain viticulture, careful selection of cru and winemaking techniques that reflect the valley’s microclimatic and soil variations. It combines local tradition with modern methods to produce wines that express the territory.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are in Valtellina, cultivated on steep terraces with dry-stone walls in historic subzones such as Sassella, Grumello, Inferno and Valgella. The soil is often shallow, rich in schist and quartz fragments; exposure and a wide diurnal temperature range give the wines structure, acidity and minerality.
Awards and recognitions
The Valtellina Sfursat 5 Stelle 2021 by Nino Negri has been awarded the "Tre Bicchieri" distinction in Gambero Rosso’s Guide to Italian Wines.
