The Verdicchio di Jesi DOC from Santa Barbara offers a fragrant, restrained profile true to the style of the denomination. In the glass it shows a bright straw color and a bouquet that favors white fruit and citrus, accompanied by floral hints and a slight almond note on the finish. The structure is balanced: lively acidity, modest body and a persistence that encourages youthful but attentive consumption. The balance of freshness and sapidity makes it pleasant and easy to enjoy.

It pairs well with seafood starters, light fish dishes, vegetables and fresh cheeses; its versatility also makes it suitable for informal occasions. It also works with more aromatic cuisines and dishes featuring shellfish. To appreciate its aromas, serve chilled around 8–10 °C, in glasses with a not-too-wide rim. Santa Barbara offers with this Verdicchio an everyday wine with good drinkability and a discreet character.

Azienda Santa Barbara – Winery in Marche

Discover the story and wines of Azienda Santa Barbara.

Azienda Santa Barbara, based in Barbara (AN), Marche, produces among others the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi “Back to Basics” — organic Verdicchio vinified in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and bottled unfiltered.
Region: Marche
Country: Italy
Winery history
The winery and its name are tied to the village of Barbara; the production site occupies an old monastery. Stefano Antonucci, from the area, leads the company — after a banking career he returned to Barbara to grow the family wine business and launch labels such as Pignocco and other experimental wines.
Production philosophy
Passion and innovation, respect for the land and grapes. The estate often makes experimental yet drinkable wines: “to make the wine that I like first of all, a wine for the drinker.” Organic practices are used for some labels, including Back to Basics.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in Barbara (province of Ancona), Marche. Vineyards on hills around 260 m a.s.l.; clayey soils, northwest exposure. Appellation: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi (DOC).
