Vinhas Velhas DOC Bairrada by Niepoort is a white wine carrying the DOC Bairrada designation. Its name identifies the producer, Niepoort, the white-wine category and the words “Vinhas Velhas”, a Portuguese expression meaning “old vines”. These details offer a useful starting point, but do not by themselves describe the wine’s profile. The information available does not specify a vintage, grape varieties, aromas or flavours, nor does it provide details about winemaking or maturation. It would therefore be inappropriate to ascribe particular aromas, structure or production methods to the wine.

This is a choice for those who would like to explore a white wine from Bairrada by Niepoort, starting with essential, verifiable information. The designation provides a geographical and regulatory reference, while the wording Vinhas Velhas evokes old vines without giving further details about their age or the wine’s composition. For food pairings, serving temperature or a suitable occasion, it is best to consult the full technical sheet or the information on the label. This is a restrained description that leaves room for the tasting itself and avoids suggesting sensory qualities that have not been confirmed.

Winery history
Niepoort is a family-owned winery with documented origins dating back to 1842. Historically linked to the production of Port, the winery has, since the late 20th century, expanded its offering to include still wines from the Douro and other regional projects. Over the years the family has acquired and developed several estates and has established production and collaborations in regions such as Bairrada, Dão, Vinho Verde, Alentejo and Mosel.

The winery also participates in initiatives focused on natural wines and terroir expression, including a reference to the Nat'Cool movement.
