Elegant yet rugged at the same time, this Ledaig 15-year-old (2007), selected and bottled by House of Mccallum, shows the pleasing contrast between peat smoke and the sweetness of the bourbon hogshead. On the nose it offers savory and smoky sensations: ash and bark combine with notes of vanilla, caramel and a hint of dried fruit; the American oak of the cask provides aromatic warmth without overpowering the mineral character. In the glass it presents a golden-amber hue that reflects its cask maturation.

On the palate the sip is full and direct, the structure rounded but held taut by a fresh saline note that lengthens the tasting; the smoke remains the protagonist, accompanied by sweet spices and a return of candied citrus on the finish. Enjoy neat or with a drop of water to open the aromas, and it’s ideal alongside smoked meats, aged cheeses or dark chocolate; serve in a tulip glass at room temperature to appreciate its balance and persistence.
