Barolo DOCG - Perno - Schiavenza represents an authentic interpretation deeply rooted in the Langhe area, Piedmont, where Nebbiolo reaches expressions of notable complexity and elegance. The Schiavenza winery, located in the heart of this prestigious wine area, is dedicated to the production of Barolo which faithfully reflects the unique characteristics of the individual crus. “Perno” refers specifically to one of Barolo's MGAs (Additional Geographical Mentions), a sub-area that stands out for the exceptional quality of the Nebbiolo grapes grown there.
This Barolo DOCG is characterized by its typical garnet red color, with orange reflections that develop with aging. On the nose, the wine offers a complex and layered bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and plums, together with nuances of dried roses, tobacco, leather and spices, the result of aging in wood which helps to further define the profile aromatic without overpowering the freshness of the fruit.
In the mouth, the Barolo DOCG Perno di Schiavenza reveals a robust structure and well-present but finely smooth tannins, typical of high-quality Nebbiolo. The balance between acidity and body is remarkable, with a palate that brings back the fruity and spicy flavors perceived on the nose, leading to a long and persistent finish, with a pleasant mineral vein that testifies to the expression of Perno's terroir.
Ideal in combination with rich and structured dishes, such as red meats, game, truffle-based dishes and mature cheeses, this Barolo is also an excellent meditation wine, capable of evolving and revealing new nuances in the glass.
