The Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva DOCG BIO, produced by La Lastra winery, is an outstanding example of how tradition can meet sustainability. This organic white wine originates from the hilly terrain of Tuscany, specifically from the historic region of San Gimignano, famous for its unique Vernaccia.

La Lastra’s Riserva is made with selected Vernaccia di San Gimignano grapes. The harvest is carried out by hand, thereby ensuring the selection of the finest grapes. Afterwards, the wine is allowed to mature in oak barrels for a period that enhances its aromatic complexity without overshadowing the fruity and fresh character typical of this variety.

Visually, the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva presents a straw-yellow color with golden reflections. On the nose, it reveals intense and complex aromas of white-fleshed fruit, floral notes, and a light touch of vanilla and toasted almonds due to aging in wood. On the palate, the liveliness is balanced by a rich structure and a lingering aftertaste reminiscent of sweet spices and ripe fruit.

This wine pairs wonderfully with rich fish dishes, such as seafood risotto or cacciucco, but can also be an excellent companion for aged cheeses and mushroom-based dishes.

La Lastra is committed to respecting the environment with sustainable practices in both the vineyard and winery, making the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva an ideal choice for wine lovers who value both the quality and the environmental impact of their selection. A true gem of Tuscany that encapsulates history, tradition, and a commitment to the future.

Winery history
La Lastra was established as a winemaking project by Renato Spanu and Nadia Betti; various company sources and specialized catalogues place the start of operations in the mid-1990s, a development that led the estate to establish vineyards and a small agriturismo associated with its production.
Production philosophy
The estate states it follows a sustainability-oriented, organic approach to viticulture: it grows and vinifies only grapes from its own vineyards and, according to its official website, uses organic methods to enhance the expression of the terroir.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are distributed among the hills surrounding San Gimignano and in parcels close to Siena's historic center. The soils are described as Pliocene, medium-textured with calcareous sand, typical of the area.
