Château Rieussec, known for its exceptional sweet wines, is located in close proximity to the famous Château d'Yquem and benefits from an exceptional terroir which contributes to the production of wines of extraordinary complexity and longevity.
The name "Carmes de Rieussec" refers to the Carmelites of Langon, historical owners of the estate in the 18th century. This wine was introduced to offer an experience linked to the prestigious terroir of Sauternes to a wider audience, maintaining a high quality but with a profile intended to be enjoyed at a younger stage than the Château's Grand Vin.
Produced mainly from Sémillon grapes, followed by Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, Sauternes wines are famous for their aromatic richness, due in part to the "noble rot" (or botrytis cinerea) process, which concentrates the sugars and acids of the grapes , adding complexity and depth to the wine.
Carmes de Rieussec expresses a wide range of aromas, including candied fruit, honey, apricot and floral notes, with a subtle hint of sweet spices and citrus fruits that add freshness and liveliness to the bouquet. Despite being meant to be accessible earlier, this wine doesn't lack structure or complexity, offering a nice acidity that balances its natural sweetness.
In the mouth, Carmes de Rieussec is rich and enveloping, with an excellent concentration of flavors that reflect the nose, culminating in a long and satisfying finish. Its richness and balance make it particularly suitable for accompanying foie gras, blue cheeses or fruit-based desserts, as well as being delicious as an aperitif or meditation wine.
