The Bolgheri Superiore DOC by Grattamacco stands out as an excellent example of the winemaking prowess of the Bolgheri region, renowned for its intense and aromatic red wines. With a deep appreciation of the coastal Tuscan terroir, this wine is a fabulous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese that harmonize perfectly to create an unforgettable tasting experience.

The Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore presents itself with a deep ruby red color, practically impenetrable to the eye. On the nose, it opens with seductive fragrances of ripe red fruits, fine spices, and a subtle streak of wood smoke, due to aging in French oak barriques for up to 18 months. These aromas interweave creating an elegant and complex bouquet that anticipates a lively and robust structure.

On the palate, the wine expresses vibrant energy with well-integrated tannins and a surprising freshness. Notes of cassis, dark chocolate, and a light toasting blend into a long and persistent finish, testifying to the aging potential of this wine. Limited production and meticulous care in the cellar guarantee consistent quality, making each vintage unique and precious.

Food pairing: The Bolgheri Superiore DOC by Grattamacco is best expressed when served alongside rich dishes such as red meat roasts, hearty stews, or aged cheeses. It is also ideal as a meditation wine, to conclude a special evening.

This wine represents not only an excellent specimen of Bolgheri winemaking but also serves as an ambassador of its territory, showing how passion, climate, and terroir can interact harmoniously to produce world-renowned wines. Ideal for collectors and enthusiasts wishing to add a touch of class to their cellar.

Discover the story and wines of Grattamacco.

A Bolgheri (Tuscany) winery known for its focus on the terroir, its hillside Vermentinos and Bordeaux-based Bolgheri wines; considered a pioneering presence in the area.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Founded: 1977
Grapes: Vermentino, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
The second-oldest estate in Bolgheri and among the pioneers of the appellation. Vineyards on soils rich in white clay and flysch, facing the sea. Historic producer of Bolgheri Superiore and a hillside Vermentino made from historic vineyards. Featuring a goblet‑trained vineyard for selected Bordeaux expressions.
Winery history
The winery, acquired by Piermario Meletti Cavallari in 1977, was among the first to develop vineyards on the hills of Bolgheri and to bring attention to varieties such as Vermentino and Sangiovese alongside Bordeaux varieties. Over the years it helped establish and shape the local appellation; the property was later transferred to a new owner in the 2000s, and the label is now part of the Collemassari/ColleMassari group for the marketing and management of the estates.
Production philosophy
Production focused on the value of the terroir: manual vineyard work, limited use of cellar technology and practices aimed at preserving the soils' mineral and saline expression. The winery prioritizes winemaking that allows the character and typicity of each vineyard to emerge.
Terroir and vineyards
Located between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, the estate sits on hills facing the sea at elevations ranging approximately between 100 and 200 meters above sea level. The soils are characterized by white clays and marine flysch, which impart a pronounced mineral component, with the constant influence of the sea breeze.
Awards and recognitions
Grattamacco's wines have received high scores in wine guides and specialist publications.
